Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2, 2026
WritersLock ("we," "us," or "our") built the App with a simple privacy principle: your writing belongs to you and stays on your device. This policy explains what we do and don't collect, and why.
01 Your writing never leaves your device
The content of your entries — the actual words you write — is stored locally on your device. We do not transmit, store, read, or have any access to your entry text. We never read or track the content of your screen.
02 What we do collect
To improve the App and keep it reliable, we collect a limited amount of anonymous, non-content data:
- Usage metadata — anonymous facts about a writing session, never its content: word count, session duration, current streak, and which writing mode you used.
- Product analytics — anonymized events about how the App is used (for example, which screens are opened), processed viaPostHog.
- Crash & error reports — diagnostic information when the App crashes or hits an error, processed viaSentry, so we can fix bugs.
- Attribution & advertising identifiers — to understand which ads or campaigns bring people to WritersLock, we collect a device advertising identifier (such as the Google Advertising ID on Android or Apple's advertising identifier on iOS) and share it with our attribution provider, AppsFlyer, along with the ad networks that referred you. This is used for install attribution and marketing measurement — never to read your writing. See section 05 for details.
These analytics, attribution, and crash-reporting services are disabled unless configured, and in all cases receive only the non-content metadata described above — never your entry text.
03 App locking & your app selections
WritersLock locks the apps you choose until you complete a daily entry. How this works depends on your platform, and in both cases your choices stay private to your device:
- iOS — we use Apple's Screen Time framework (FamilyControls). The apps you select are represented by opaque tokens managed by the operating system; we cannot see the names or identities of the apps you pick, and this selection stays on your device.
- Android — we use usage-access permission to detect which app is in the foreground so we can apply a lock. This check happens on your device; we don't transmit your app usage to our servers, and we never read your screen content.
04 Subscriptions
Subscription purchases are handled by the Apple App Store and Google Play and processed through RevenueCat, which helps us manage subscription status. We do not collect or store your payment card details — those are handled by Apple or Google. RevenueCat may process a non-identifying purchase token to tell the App whether your subscription is active.
05 Attribution & advertising identifiers
To measure our marketing and understand which campaigns lead people to install WritersLock, we work with AppsFlyer, a mobile attribution provider. For this purpose the App may collect a device advertising identifier (for example, the Google Advertising ID on Android or Apple's advertising identifier on iOS) together with basic install and event metadata, and share it with AppsFlyer and the advertising networks that referred you. This data is used only for install attribution and marketing measurement — never to access, read, or transmit the content of your entries. You can reset or limit your advertising identifier at any time in your device's privacy settings.
06 What we never do
- We never sell your data.
- We never upload, read, or share the content of your entries.
- We never track the content of your screen or other apps.
07 Data retention
Your entries remain on your device until you delete them or remove the App. Anonymous analytics and crash data are retained only as long as needed to operate and improve the App, in line with our service providers' standard retention periods.
08 Children's privacy
WritersLock is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
09 Your rights
Because your writing lives on your device, you control it directly — you can view, edit, export, or delete your entries within the App. Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding the anonymous analytics data described above; contact us to make a request.
10 Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App.
